Japanese Aesthetics on European Lute "Moss, Water, Stone and Silence" Ambient Music by Nao Sogabe

Описание: The concepts of Japanese beauty, such as "wabi" and "sabi", which are renowned worldwide, differ significantly from those of the Western tradition. While I won't go into detailed explanations here, Japanese aesthetics encompass various facets, making it impossible to represent them all in a single piece of music. In this composition, I focused particularly on a sense of beauty rooted in the Buddhist concepts of "emptiness" (kū) and "impermanence" (mujō).
By utilizing slow pauses and leaps between sounds, significant changes in timbre between notes
, and blending traditional Japanese scales with Western major, minor, and ecclesiastical modes, I sought to express a uniquely Japanese aesthetic.
I aimed to create music that reflects "transience" while also revealing "hope," inspiring the strength to face life's challenges. I hope you enjoy it.

No, no, this lute is not out of tune, but quite purely tuned!
But the harmonies actually sound quite different from how we are used to... I used the tuning in the Age of Enlightenment, 17th and 18th centuries. In the modern "equal temperament" are the 3rds and 6ths quite detuned. We don't notice that because we are used to it... In this "meantone temperament" is tuned so that most of the intervals sound as pure as possible. The pure intervals are based on the natural overtones and work positively for our mental health. And also for our cats - they often approach the speaker...
