Travel back to the 1800s with KSPS PBS Northwest Profiles as we explore Bannack, Montana — one of the best-preserved ghost towns in the American West. Once a bustling gold rush boomtown and the first territorial capital of Montana, Bannack now stands silent, frozen in time with over 60 historic buildings still standing. Located along Grasshopper Creek, Bannack was founded in 1862 after gold was discovered, sparking a rush of prospectors, entrepreneurs, and outlaws. Today, it’s a National Historic Landmark and a must-visit destination for history buffs, ghost town explorers, and lovers of the Wild West.
Produced by Lynn Veltrie in 2010.
