Описание: This is what happens when you compress dense sand. The video shows a time lapse of a dense sand specimen under triaxial compression. You can see the development of soil deformation and shear banding. This test provides the shear strength and other parameters needed in design of footings, piles, earth retaining walls, and other geotechnical design. The sand is a beach sand that is encased in a latex membrane. It is being confined by approximately one atmosphere of confining pressure. The confinement is applied by placing the sand in the membrane under vacuum. The vacuum reduces the pressure inside the sand to zero, while there is a pressure of one atmosphere outside the sample. This translates to a confining stress of approximately one atmosphere on the sand.
