A major emergency unfolded late at night after a cold storage pipe burst, leading to a toxic ammonia gas leak from a valve in Tamando, Bhubaneswar. The gas quickly spread across the surrounding area, prompting an immediate response from the Odisha Fire and Emergency Services.
Firefighters conducted door-to-door evacuations of nearby shops and residents to prevent casualties. The operation involved water jet sprays and robotic monitors to control the gas spread. After nearly four hours of intensive effort, the fire personnel managed to bring the situation under control and entered the cold storage facility to shut off the leaking valve.
