Mispec River Class IV Solo Paddle Southern New Brunswick Best Local Rivers Canada

Описание: A few hours solo paddling on the Mispec River, a more popular local area Class III whitewater paddle in Southern New Brunswick. The rapids were all pretty straight forward at this level but still had lots of volume for a fun run. This run was during the typically dryer season but after a healthy amount of rain.

A real treasure for Intermediate / Advanced paddlers.

Difficulty: Intermediate / Advance / Mostly Class III (+) with some class IV

As per most of the river in our local area the amount of rainfall we receive affects the grades significantly. As with any class III and up it is strongly advised to scout any rapids that you can't see a clean line on.

Water Guage: Unfortunately this river does not have a dedicated guage but the reading on the "Black river (which is very close geographically) on this day was 1.44 Meters The flood and drains of these rivers probably don't translate exactly but the local rains would affect the water levels in the same way.

Length: 8.47 Kilometers including a 4.21 Kilometer flat water paddle to the white water.

Paddle Duration: Approximately 5 Hours

Season: Spring / After heavy Summer rain and Fall

Put In: 45°15'42.2"N 65°55'19.9"W at Old Black River Road
Take out: 45°13'53.0"N 65°57'18.3"W Near Red Head Road

Put in Elevation: 72 Meters (236.1 Feet )
Take Out Elevation: 11.8 Meters (38.8 Feet)

Gradient: 7.12 Meters per Kilometer
This gradient slightly misleading due to the first 4.21 Kilometers being bascially flat water this makes the gradient more accurately described as closer to 14.13 Meters / Kilometer. This is more how I would peg this river as once you hit the whitewater it's pretty steady for the whole paddle and even gets into a couple sizable sheer drops.

Final thoughts: This is one of the more popular paddles in this area for good reason. If you're an intermediate to advanced paddler the remoteness and character of this river is a treat.
