Chico, a street cleaner, saves a down-and-out woman named Diane from her tyrant of a sister and allows her to share his top-floor apartment. Love blossoms - but then World War I comes.
Janet Gaynor won the first Academy Award for Best Actress for her work in this film as well as the films "Sunrise" and "Street Angel". This film was the first time she and Charles Farrell worked together, and they made many more silents and talkies as a screen couple.
