Trash Talk | Slow Journalism in a World of Fast Food (2021)

Описание: Inspired by a course at the University of Richmond taught by professor Don Belt devoted to National Geographic’s Out of Eden Walk, Megan Maybee and Morgan Malstead apply skills of slow journalism in a world of fast food.

Along with the coronavirus came an increase in single-use items as pressure was placed on the food industry to offer more take-out options, with copious amounts of plastic containers, utensils, condiments, and salt and pepper packets supplied with orders. After witnessing the incredible amount of waste coming out of a college campus as a result, Megan Maybee and Morgan Malstead created the Trash Talk series to shed light on this culture of rampant consumption. By listening to the experiences of custodians emptying trash bins, members of dining services, events managers, and those in partnership with the office of sustainability, the resulting short documentary offers a reflection on the waste we produce in our individual communities and the role we each can play in establishing a new culture of accountability and responsibility for our shared planet.
