In this video essay I discuss what came after the Italian neorealist movement of the 40s and 50s and look at two distinct examples of where film branched out next: Miracle in Milan and L’Avventura. I’ll talk about their symbolism, their social commentaries, and the ways they built upon the filmic language of neorealism to create new stories and ways of telling them. Happy holidays everyone!
