During the Committee of Supply 2026 debate for Ministry of Health, the Workers' Party MP He Ting Ru urged the Government to set firm timelines to regulate therapists and counsellors, arguing that clients need clear avenues for redress while ensuring entry barriers are not prohibitive for new practitioners.
Declaring her interest as a wellbeing practitioner, she suggested exploring support such as SkillsFuture credits to offset high supervision and practicum costs.
She also sought clarity on the vision, targets, funding and reporting framework of the National Mental Health and Well-Being Strategy, referencing approaches in Scotland and Malaysia.
Separately, she pressed for continued study of a tobacco-free generation policy, citing international developments and calling for a defined endgame to reduce smoking prevalence below 5 per cent.
