Shock and fear rippled through Taipei’s Zhongshan commercial district after a knife-wielding attacker killed at least three people and injured six others on Friday evening. The violence unfolded near Eslite Spectrum Nanxi and Taipei Main Station, where witnesses described scenes of panic, smoke and people fleeing the area.
Authorities said the 27-year-old suspect later fell from a shopping complex during a police pursuit and died after suffering cardiac arrest. Victims were taken to several hospitals as police increased security across major transport hubs.
Taiwan President Lai Ching-te condemned the attack and vowed a thorough investigation, pledging that authorities would clarify the motive and strengthen public safety measures.
