Snatch Extension w/ Pause at Knee
We incorporate snatch extensions to improve and strengthen the mechanics and musculature used to move the bar off the ground and explode through the hip. We teach the sequence of: legs, hips, toes (balls of feet), shoulders, THEN arms.
Adding the pause at the knee helps to reinforce and strength the following:
1) The proper body position at the knee. In order to get into a position with the chest up, shoulders slightly in front of the bar, and shins vertical, the lifter must use the LEGS to move the bar and the body. Pausing at the knee will tell the coach and the lifter if this is being done correctly.
2) The posterior chain musculature. The isometric hold helps to strength the back muscles need to hold the "over the bar" position from the floor to the point of explosion.
