What if you could get to the Moon using almost no fuel?
This simulation shows a spacecraft taking a low-energy trajectory from Earth to lunar orbit, guided entirely by gravity—especially from the Sun. The red object follows a path governed by the Earth–Moon–Sun–spacecraft four-body problem. After launch from Earth, no propulsion is used on the way to the Moon—just clever use of orbital dynamics.
The top view shows the trajectory in the Earth-centered inertial frame, where the spacecraft swings out nearly four lunar distances before curving back toward the Moon.
The bottom view shows the same trajectory in the Sun–Earth rotating frame (x-axis = Sun–Earth line). The spacecraft approaches a Sun–Earth L2 halo orbit and then arcs back with enough energy to be ballistically captured by the Moon. A small maneuver at arrival can insert it into lunar orbit or a lunar Lagrange point orbit.
