Dylan Kingwell is a mental health advocate that portrayed Duncan and Quigley Quagmire in Netflix's adaptation of A Series of Unfortunate Events. I corresponded with him via Cameo to request his response to a scenario where I asked how would Quigley encourage my curiosity even in the face of pure vitriol. His response was indeed encouraging for it allowed me to embrace that good people are well-read. It's solid advice that reinforces the fact that no matter how undervalued I feel I am, it's important to stand my ground, continue to stay educated, question everything that's going on around me, and stay true to myself.
A related story that came to mind that motivated me to book Kingwell in the first place was several years ago, my mother went to a book expo in New York City where she met David Handler. She told him that I was fond of "A Series of Unfortunate Events" and he jokingly replied that she must have not raised me right. She got his autographed poster advertising an upcoming book and passed it down to me as a souvenir. It made me laugh.
Even after I obtained my bachelor's degree in art, I continuously read the books to this day because the pessimistic storylines are more easily relatable and the fact there are little illustrations encouraged me to use my imagination and take a closer look at minor details, both of which are characteristics that I value as an artist and writer. I'm currently taking a break to read the Harry Potter books for a change and thankfully, I get the same kind of intellectual stimulation.
Book Dylan Kingwell on Cameo (He donates proceeds to charity. ;) );
