Greenland Kayak build part one.
The hull is made from red cedar due to it's resistance towards putridity and it's lightweight, yet firm properties. The ribs will be made from ash thanks to it's bending properties.
Traditional kayak building is all about fitting a hull to ones body and needs - therefore strict specifications or plans are not used - rather old age guidelines have emerged from past boatbuilder generations from the polar circle.
When attempting to build ones fist boat in the traditional way, you are often in question if your decisions will result in a well shaped hull.
