Stroke is the disruption of blood flow to the brain. Strokes can be catastrophic because brain cells die. William Patenaude, Ph.D., a clinical neuropsychologist at Providence St. Patrick Hospital, explains that when you have a stroke, “you are one way before and another way after.”
It’s critical to get stroke victims to treatment as fast as possible—to stop the loss of brain cells and prevent or reduce long-term disability. Call 9-1-1 immediately at the first sign of stroke.
