In this video, hear from SAI Founders Shireen & Afzal Ahmad and Executive Director Asad Ali Jafri about how The South Asia Institute opened its doors just one year ago on Michigan Avenue in the heart of Chicago’s Prairie District with a mission of cultivating the cultural heritage of the South Asian diaspora through the arts.

Despite the closures and difficulties we’ve faced this year, we continue to engage the public with innovative programming, thought provoking exhibitions and both local and global collaborations with artists and arts organizations.

While we did not let the pandemic slow us down, we learned to adapt and re-strategize for what many are calling the “new normal.” We are looking forward to bringing you more programming in the coming years and serving as a much needed space and platform for South Asian American communities. In fact, we are one of the few physical centers dedicated to cultivating South Asian arts and culture in North America. Which is why we need your support now more than ever to help sustain our quality programs, exhibitions and educational initiatives that are vital to our vision.
