MEAT SAFETY ?
(No food lasts for ever)
Food safety issue must be practised at home.
Protein rich foods like meat, poultry,Fish provide a common culprit of food poisoning,so one must utilize proper storage techniques to deny microbes a chance to growth.
Keep cooked meat separate from raw meat.
Shelf life of stored meat is ever one year but even after 3 months think of freezer burn or funny taste.
After De-Frosting use meat or poultry within 24 hours.
Never Re-freeze.
The characteristics of Good meat is neither pale pink nor a deep purple tint, firm & elastic to touch, should not be slimmy & have an agreeable odour.
Eat & cook on the same day.
Meat cooking should be up to standard & should be well & deep cooked in order to destroy Taenia Saginata etc. Fasciola hepatica & bacterial infections like anthrax, actinomycosis, Tuberculosis etc.
HOW TO STORE MEAT ?
Fresh meat is sterile unless contaminated from butcher's to cooking.
Keep Raw meat unwrapped to allow air to circulate for 3 to 4 days in the refrigerator (4°to 8°C).
Roasted or Cooked meat can be stored for 3 to 5 days.
Uncooked meat can be Frozen for 4 months (-18°C)
Cooked Frozen Meat can be kept for 3 months (-18°C or below )
