This is a 11.6" touchscreen from an Asus VivoBook laptop. (It could be from any one of a dozen different models that used this panel and controller: x202e, s200, s200e, etc). I found the panels on eBay for $15 shipped, and the controller board (with cable) for $5.
The touch controller is an Atmel mxt1664s, which can talk to a host over USB or i2c. I was expecting this one to use i2c, but was surprised to find it uses USB, instead. I figured I should at least hook it up and see what happens. It ends up that Windows 10 has USB touchscreen support built-in, and everything just works! (Yes, it's noisy as hell, but it's not bad considering the panel is probably a reject, the controller hasn't been recalibrated, and the wiring job is the epitome of quick-and-dirty.)
Protip: if you want to do something like this, (unless you are a master at soldering very small wires) make sure you buy a touch module with the cable! Even with the cable, it's a challenge. The cable wires are so small I broke them every time I tried to strip off the insulation. I ended up having to burn it off with a lighter.
