In this episode, we sit down with Chop Mosley, one of Philadelphia’s most respected videographers, to talk about his incredible journey behind the camera. From shooting visuals for some of Philly’s biggest artists like PNB Rock, Meek Mill, and D Jones, to building his brand and reputation in the music industry, Chop opens up about what it really takes to succeed as a creative in hip-hop culture.
• Introduction and Early Career (0:32-2:22): Chop Mosley is introduced as a Philly legend in videography. He shares how he got started in filmmaking after feeling lost and trying to find his way after playing college basketball. He began by managing an artist and decided to learn filmmaking himself after being quoted $1,000 for a music video in 2013.
• First Major Set and Meek Mill (2:50-3:45): Chop's first significant experience on a set was for Rick Ross and Meek Mill's "I'm a Boss" video. He recounts how everything clicked for him then and how he already saw Meek Mill's potential for stardom even before that video.
• Influence of His Uncle (3:47-5:31): Chop discusses how his late uncle, a barber, instilled a hustler and entrepreneurial spirit in him by having him sell CDs to clients, teaching him about making money.
• The Rise and Fall of Film Mob (5:32-8:50): Chop talks about the origins of "Film Mob," a collective that made videography cool in Philadelphia from 2014 to 2018. He mentions that they "cornered the market" during that period. He also touches upon why it eventually dispersed, attributing it to too many people doing the same thing, and pays respects to a lost brother from the group, Re.
• Rebuilding Film Mob and Inspiration (8:52-10:00): Chop reveals his plans to rebuild Film Mob. He explains that the name "Film Mob" was inspired by Dre Films' "film mafia" hashtag, and how he focused on branding, utilizing his business school knowledge to create hoodies and other merchandise that gained popularity.
• Working with PnB Rock (10:08-13:30): Chop shares his extensive work with the late PnB Rock, including their first video "My City Need Something" and their last, "Lost You to the Game." He recounts PnB Rock's initial dislike for some of his most popular songs' videos and his reaction to the news of PnB Rock's passing.
• Videographer Pricing and Relationships (13:40-15:37): Chop addresses the question of why some videographers charge high prices despite limited resumes. He states that he can only speak for himself, emphasizing that his pricing is based on his experience and that he values long-term relationships with clients over just the money.
• Personal Growth and Fatherhood (16:37-20:29): Chop discusses a period of dark times, depression, and weight gain from 2025 (likely 2015-2018 based on previous context), and how he lost himself. He talks about co-parenting with his ex and the importance of fathers being present in their children's lives, highlighting the unparalleled love received from kids.
• Dream Collaborations and Future Goals (20:41-22:31): Chop expresses his desire to work on films and become a "film great," not necessarily chasing Oscars but aiming to put Philadelphia on the map as a "film juggernaut." For music videos, he'd love to shoot for Drake or Raw Wave.
• Unity in Philly's Music Scene (22:32-23:27): He believes Philadelphia has immense talent across various fields but lacks unity, which prevents the city from reaching its full potential in music.
• Uptown Philadelphia Rappers (23:28-27:10): Chop shares his favorite Uptown Philly rappers, listing Quilly, Vodka, and Meek Mill as his top three. He also acknowledges the influence of Young Bob and Bam in introducing him to the streets and connecting him with the rap scene.
• DVD Era Documentary (27:25-28:49): Chop expresses his intention to create a documentary about the DVD era in Philly, involving Bam and Bob, and suggests it will happen when the time is right.
• Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles (29:15-30:52): The conversation concludes with a lighthearted discussion about NFL teams, with Chop, a Cowboys fan, sharing his forecast for his team and his opinion on the Eagles and Jaylen Hurts.
