Even assessment is about relationships! When we trust our students to take control of their own assessment, our classrooms become deeper, more caring, and more equitable. By going gradeless—and utilizing the criteria-building, self-assessment, and conferencing that this session focuses on—teachers joyfully free themselves to be coaches and mentors.
This workshop focuses on the pedagogy and practicalities of running a gradeless secondary ELA classroom, using examples from my own teaching practice. The recording was part of the NCTE 2020 Convention's Navigating Assessment and Grading Practices strand.
