Having "the talk" with your kids is a lifetime of conversations, with Lisa Hendrickson-Jack

Описание: What I've learned as a parent is that there's no conversation, there's not one conversation. You have a lifetime of conversations. So when these types of things come up, "Mommy, why are you in the bathroom so much?" "Well, Mommy has her period." "Well, what does that mean?" And we'll talk about it. I think I had this conversation with my son the other day. It's like "Well, for a couple of days every month mommy bleeds from her vagina and it's because that's how we make babies." And I don't flinch when I say that, but that's because I've had a lot of practice. So for your average person who's not necessarily comfortable with that, you just kind of have to be that blunt about it. You just have to start thinking about it and start thinking about how you're going to discuss it. I think a really real barrier, so when you think about school systems, teachers go to school to learn about specific topics, right? Art, history, math, social studies. So they're not, we can't expect your average teacher to be well versed in these areas. I mean, often the teachers are kind of put in the position where they have to do these types of sexual health education but they don't necessarily specialize.
