RC F8F Bearcat with French Air Force markings. Carrier Aircraft. Made with balsawood and complete with retracts and flaps. Powed by an E-flite 340kv brushless motor on a 6S lipo with a 14 x 6 prop.
Flight Review:
After two successful flights it became clear the original propeller was too small. The giveaway was throttle response. From half to three quarter throttle there was no power increase and the same again from three quarter to full. That tells you the motor is already at max RPM and the prop is not loading it properly.
With a correct setup you should feel a smooth power curve and peak performance at full throttle. Any lack of thrust regardless of throttle input points to a prop or motor issue and in this case it was the prop. I went up an extra inch and reduced pitch which immediately fixed the throttle curve.
The difference in flight was obvious. I was far more confident putting power on to get out of trouble if airspeed dropped. Rolls loops and high speed passes were clean and controlled and the final landing was actually very good for this aircraft.
