Weekly Review — Week 9, 2026 | Fertilizers, Agriculture, Gas & Shipping
Escalation of the conflict in Iran is a key driver across global markets, including fertilizers, in the coming weeks, increasing uncertainty and supporting prices. Meanwhile Europe is trying to address farmers’ concerns about fertilizers price increase with the help of most-favored-nations tariff suspension, however, implementation timing is unclear.
Key highlights:
📉 Apart from war related concerns, purely industrial fundamentals suggest that urea prices may have peaked following the Indian tender and could soften globally amid limited demand from April onwards.
📈 Ammonium sulfate prices climbed as market activity resumed in China and Brazil after holidays.
🟰 Ammonium nitrate prices remained stable amid muted demand in Europe.
✖️ Ammonia market sentiment gradually turned bearish on expectations of additional supply from the US in March, although developments in Iran remain a key uncertainty factor.
❗ Phosphate prices surged despite deepening affordability concerns in major consuming markets.
⬇️ Natural gas prices in both Europe and the US declined further as warmer spring weather reduced heating demand.
🌽 Agricultural commodity futures moved higher, driven by geopolitically related short covering and more optimistic sentiment around global demand.
⚓Container shipping rates stabilized, with activity expected to gradually improve in the coming weeks. Bulk shipping activity also picked up following the seasonal holiday lull.
