"Baba, ekdin tumi, dada ar ami abar harmonica bajabo tinjone mile...shedin tumi shei chhoTobelay dekha gombhir mukhei bajiyo..."
It's always there. Somewhere deep in my memory. The other day, while trying to entertain Sabina during her efforts to cook for us in our North Avenue (MP) flat, New Delhi, the song suddenly visited me. We posted the video clip yesterday. Then I thought I might as well use my old chromatic harmonica which I brought out of a closet about two weeks ago after not having touched it for quite some time.
The first time I saw a harmonica it was in my father's hands. I was just a child and my father, otherwise a very somber man whom I seldom saw cheerful, was playing it without losing his serious facial expressions. I found what he played was a happy melody. But his face was not happy at all. Anyway, he gave me that harmonica and it became my companion. I learnt to play the harmonica when I was about six. My elder brother was already playing some songs on his harmonica. And sometimes we would play duets. Exactly twice in my life did I see my father, serious as ever, pick up a harmonica (there were several harmonicas in our little house) and play along. It was a rare trio. We played a Rabindranath song: "Anondo loke mongolaloke birajo shotyoshundoro." ...KabirSuman
