What is the 15th most frequently asked question about DCF home visits in Massachusetts? What should I do during my DCF home visit if I feel as though the DCF service workers being unfair? Sometimes DCF likes to poke the bear, meaning you. Be cool as a cucumber coming out of a refrigerator. Nothing is gained by being hostile or angry or swearing or being disruptive with DCF service workers. At all times, be courteous, kind and polite. Even if they lower themselves below that level. As Aretha Franklin said, respect.
Give it and you should receive it. DCF should be like a mayor. If you treat them right, they should treat you right. And that should be a two-way street. But when they don't, don't take coverage to it. It's not just DCF social workers who are disrespectful. Unfortunately, I see a lot of people who don't open doors for people, don't say please or thank you and you're welcome. They should, but they don't. So put the big girl, the big boy pants on and just be ready for whatever comes at you. But always stay courteous, kind and polite to DCF. They may be testing you. They may want to write down how lousy you treated them. But you don't get the same criticism to be able to write about them. So don't play the game. Be smart really smart. You're gonna allow them to poke you. Be calm, be cool, be collected. And above all, respect.
