The fuel QR system may return across Sri Lanka as long queues begin forming again at filling stations amid rising global oil uncertainty.

Fuel station owners say the QR code system can identify vehicles, warning the public not to bring unrelated vehicles to obtain fuel. Meanwhile, three-wheel driver unions warn they will begin a hunger strike in front of the Presidential Secretariat if they do not receive at least 38 liters of fuel per week.

Authorities claim fuel stocks will last until the end of April, but workers' unions say supply is not sufficient to meet demand.

Police have been deployed near fuel stations to manage traffic and queues, while the President has advised exploring work-from-home options if necessary.

At the same time, the Middle East war continues to escalate, now entering Day 17. The death toll in Iran has reportedly risen to 1,444, while the United States has launched strikes on key Iranian oil export facilities. Former US President Donald Trump says the Hormuz Strait will be freed “one way or another.”

The crisis in the Hormuz Strait, a critical global oil shipping route, is already affecting energy markets worldwide.
