Homemade Fly & Jig Tying Glue

Guys, I've been looking a cost-effective glue for tying my flies and jigs. I want to make tough flies and jigs for my customers.

Some of my flies are complicated, using multiple hooks and such. However I need a good, cost-effective fly tying glue for my simple flies as well.

In making fly tying glues, start with GOOP. Get the original stuff. It's waterproof, paintable and works well on metal and fabric. That's perfect for fly tying. The problem it is thick. The solution?

Use Xylene to thin the glue out. Find a small container to serve as your fly tying glue despenser. Add about toothbrush spread of GOOP, then measure a tablespoon or so of Xylene. Mix, shake and let sit overnight.

The next day it's ready to use. Check to see if it is the correct viscosity for you. To thin it out even more, add more Xylene. To thicken it up add more GOOP.
