National strategies and policies for quantum technologies

Quantum technologies, including sensing, computing and communication, could offer capabilities beyond the reach of existing digital technologies.

In this context, governments are introducing ambitious national strategies and policies to shape their domestic quantum ecosystems and monitor developments in this rapidly evolving field. A new OECD paper, “An overview of national strategies and policies for quantum technologies”, examines the emerging policy landscape designed to support the development and adoption of quantum technologies.

This OECD Global Forum on Technology webinar on 20 January 2026 explored how countries are developing national strategies and policy instruments to support the development and uptake of quantum technologies. It delved into their timelines, motivations, scope, goals, assessment approaches and the governance mechanisms that define their national quantum strategies.
