Wouldn’t have thought of this idea if the game didn’t give out so many T. rexes and Raptors like candy all the time, be they Gen 1 or Gen 2. I had the Gen 1 done a while ago but kept it in the lab while I cooked up the Gen 2 very gradually. But then one of those events that let you use a limited set of creatures dropped with Indominus Gen 2 listed. So I spent bucks to speed up all the work and got the Gen 2 done today.

I at the very least had Gen 1 on my lost old account and played with the Brawlasaur versions before they were discontinued.

I think it’s ironically easier to get the Gen 2 these days. I think I had gotten all the Raptors I needed for free and got enough amber to buy the Gen 2 T. rexes before I reached the stage that unlocks Gen 1 T. rex. But I held back because I thought I might’ve wanted to conserve my amber, though in reality it’s actually a pretty expendable resource. So while Gen 1 comes from natural progression that is guaranteed by just continuing to play the game, Gen 2 can technically be accessed whenever if you have enough resources.
