This week on Beyond the Yellow Tape, we examine the deadly shooting that claimed the life of 18-year-old Jermaine Thirkield of Columbus.
Jermaine was shot and killed on November 21, 2023, while sitting in the front passenger seat of a black SUV near Shatulga Road and Macon Road. The driver of the vehicle, a friend of Jermaine’s, was also shot but survived. Police say they recovered approximately 30 spent shell casings at the scene in what investigators believe was a targeted shooting.
We hear from Jermaine’s mother, Sharlene Sumrell, as she makes an emotional plea for justice for her son and calls for an end to gang violence in the community.
