Immerse yourself in some of Australia's best rainforest scenery in the Otway Ranges amongst tall trees, ancient plant life and lush giant tree ferns. The Otway Cool Temperate Rainforest, located in the Great Otway National Park near the Great Ocean Road, is a 140-million-year-old Gondwanan ecosystem, featuring ancient Myrtle Beech trees (Nothofagus cunninghammii), giant tree ferns, and moss-covered gullies. These forests are a direct link to the age of dinosaurs, characterised by high rainfall and, uniquely not adapted to bushfires. It is also home to the native, carnivorous (but harmless to humans) black snail.
