Many areas along Vancouver’s shoreline sustained significant damage due to a storm on January 7, 2022 including the seawall, Jericho Pier and Kitsilano Pool. A structural assessment is underway and is expected to take four to eight weeks to complete. This will be followed by a fulsome report detailing the extent of the damage, and will outline options for repairs and next steps.
We know Kits Pool is beloved by Vancouveraites and is a favourite summer destination; however, due to structural issues and for everyone’s safety, the pool must remain closed while it undergoes the necessary assessment and repair work. This work is expected to extend into the summer which may mean the pool will not reopen this year. To help offset the impact, Recreation Services will extend the hours of operations at Second Beach and New Brighton pools. Staff are also continuing to explore other options and solutions.
