Alberta Premier Danielle Smith holds a news conference in Calgary to announce the launch of an acute care plan for the province’s health system.
Smith is joined by Matt Jones, the minister of hospital and surgical health services, as well as Jason Nixon, the minister of assisted living and social services, and Rick Wilson, the minister of mental health and addiction.
The plan aims to add more than 1,000 new acute care beds in Edmonton and Calgary and deliver 50,000 additional surgeries over the next three years, expanding operating room capacity and reducing wait times.
Smith faces questions from reporters on the ongoing negotiations with the federal government over the development of a bitumen pipeline from Alberta to British Columbia.
