Nanoscopic insights are touted to transform the next generation of bionic materials, with scientists now able to observe the process of electrical stimulation on a molecular level. The innovation is thanks to the work of a research team from the ARC Centre of Excellence for Electromaterials Science (ACES).

The new approach, described in the January 2013 issue of science and technology journal SMALL, enables the real-time detection of single interactions occurring between protein-conducting polymers and the electrical stimulation of cells.
