But in 2007, two women were found brutally murdered just a few hundred metres from his home in an upscale Port Elizabeth suburb — both sex workers, both with their throats slashed. One was stuffed in a trash bag. The other left in a backyard garden like discarded evidence.

This week, forensic psychologist Gerard Labuschagne takes us into the mind of Riaan Stander — a man who confessed quickly, but played games in court. Why did he agree to a “pointing out,” only to backtrack when lawyers arrived? Why did he kill two women in the same street, on the same couch, then dump them so close to his front door?
