Dawn broke softly over Chitwan National Park as our game drive slipped into the tall grass, the air thick with anticipation and the quiet hope of spotting a tiger. The forest felt alive in a way that made every shadow seem significant, every rustle a promise, but the tigers remained elusive, hidden somewhere beyond our sight. Instead, the park revealed itself through sound first: a layered chorus of birdsong echoing through the sal trees, the distant alarm calls of deer, insects humming steadily beneath it all. Just when the search felt almost meditative, luck shifted — a magnificent one-horned rhinoceros emerged, ancient and solid, moving with surprising grace. The moment turned electric when, without warning, another rhino burst from the undergrowth, charging through the brush in a sudden explosion of noise and motion before disappearing as quickly as it had appeared. No tigers showed themselves that morning, but the raw intensity of Chitwan — its sounds, its surprises, its close encounters — made the drive unforgettable in its own right.
