Markeaton Marvels & Kedleston Splendours: A parkrun tourism Dream Day 🌟🏞️

Описание: Iona and I have had a Saturday filled with running and history, the start of a year of combining parkrun tourism with visits to National Trust properties thanks to a Christmas Gift of family membership for the year.

The morning started with the rhythmic sound of footsteps, as we joined the community at Markeaton parkrun. Nestled in the heart of Derby, Markeaton Park offered a picturesque backdrop for a 5K run and we had the perfect morning of blue skies as the sun rose over frosty fields (though Iona found it a tad on the chilly side)

A tasty and excellent value breakfast at the Orangery Cafe right by the finish refuelled us ready for post parkrun faff. Starting with exploring the park, playgrounds and a model railway exhibition.

Then onto the other main event of the day, our first National Trust visit as members to the stunning Kedleston Hall. The entrance and guest reception rooms have to be seen to be believed, I've never seen anything like them before in the UK.

Another cafe stop (the National Trust do very nice cakes) before venturing back outside to explore the church and grounds, beautiful!

We can't wait to explore more National Trust properties in the year ahead, looking forward to combining history with running in 2024! Iona has bought a National Trust passport to get stamped at each property to keep a record of our visits.
