About this video: This is video is our complete guide on how to backup Minecraft. This will let you never have to worry about a losing a world, game save, or even Minecraft resource pack. Additionally, this will all be done automatically meaning that you aren’t going to have to worry whatsoever. The backups will be there if you need them, but won’t be bothersome to complete. The back-up method outlined in this video will not only backup Minecraft, but it will also back-up your entire computer completely safely. Thus, without anymore delay, here is how to backup Minecraft!
First things first, this is mainly for backing up your local Minecraft worlds and files. For servers, you should use a host. However, if you are hosting your server locally on your PC, this method will work as well.
Moving on though, there are two types of backups - local backups and offsite backups. Local backups aren’t that great truthfully because they can easily be lost if your computer itself has issues. For example, if your hard drive dies, local backups will be lost. The second type is an offsite backup. Offsite backups are usually done over the internet and keep your files backed up on a device in a different location on different hard drives than your computer. This means that if your computer has an issue or hard drive failure, no files will be lost as they are stored on different hardware in a different location.
To do a local back-up, press the Windows Key on your keyboard and ‘R’ at the exact same time. This will open up the Run app. In this app, type %appdata% and hit enter. This will open your Roaming folder. In this folder, you will see a .minecraft folder. Right-click on this folder and click ‘copy’. Then, right-click on your desktop and click ‘paste’. You now have a local backup of your Minecraft files on your computer directly on your desktop. You can add this to Dropbox or Google Drive to get a simple off-site backup. Just be careful though as this won’t update automatically and will become outdated as soon as you do anything in Minecraft.
What if you do want to do automatic offsite backups for Minecraft though? Well, the best way to do an offsite back-up not just of Minecraft but of your whole computer is BackBlaze. For just a few dollars a month, you can automatically backup your Minecraft files every single day. We do have an affiliate link for BackBlaze in the description above. However, we have used BackBlaze for years and truly love them.
Once you click the link in the description above, you will be able to setup your BackBlaze account, install it, and set it up. Backblaze is offsite, and it mirrors it offsite again meaning there is very little chance of data loss. On top of that Backblaze can run an automatic backup of your Minecraft files every 24 hours. We recommend using Backblaze and offsite backup for extra security and no more than one day worth of data loss. Again, we use them to backup our Minecraft files, and it works great!
Nevertheless, you now know how to backup Minecraft automatically in order to never lose your worlds.
