83/365 WIN - YOU'VE GOT THE POWER (US DANCE MIX) (1986) (made famous by McEwans "Escher" advert)

Описание: During the course of this year I aim to upload a song every day for your consideration as to whether they were good enough and sufficiently commercial to have become UK Top 20 singles. Many different genres will be represented, so if this particular one’s not your preferred style then hopefully it won’t be too long before you find one that is.
For those songs that are interesting enough for you to give them a proper listen, please press “like” if you think it could have been a hit, and “dislike” if you don’t, in the hope that we get enough votes to obtain a balanced overview. Also, if leaving a critical comment please try to take into account the year of original release - most of the songs that I'll be uploading are decades old so it wouldn’t be surprising if some sound dated now.
Chances are that you’ve never heard of today’s choice which is You’ve Got The Power by Edinburgh band Win in 1986. Far more likely though that you will recall its association with the famous McEwan’s Lager advert (ironically “probably the best lager advert ever!”) which was heavily inspired by the work of Dutch artist M. C. (Maurits Cornelis) Escher. Win recorded various versions of the song, but for me the best is this US Dance mix, simply because it’s closest to the mix that was especially created for the advert. Win’s single release only managed to reach no. 95 in the official UK charts, but the reality is that it sold enough copies to have been a hit; prevented only by Gallup allegedly excluding a large portion of sales due to a misconception that the single was being illegally hyped in stores around Scotland, when in truth it was simply an Edinburgh brewery giving a break to a local band.
