The secondary air pump is one of those weird contraptions that is either a visual question mark or throwing emission codes at you. Well, it's purpose is actually pretty important.
Here's some quick info:
The valve for the secondary air pump can and will get carbon build up. Which will of course restrict flow and cause a secondary air pump fault code.
You are actually able to test out the pump if you have access to INPA software. If the pump is blowing air nice and hard(disconnect the hose attached to the pump & valve), you know the valve is bad.
