A full-barrier, CCTV level crossing located next to Betchworth Station on the North Downs Line in Surrey. This unique and iconic level crossing has only within just over a week of filming and publishing received new barriers to replace the old ones that provided a solid 47 years of service! They have been replaced by barriers manufactured in 2023, a little further back than you may expect from brand new barriers. However, and you may be pleased to know this, the previous set-up has otherwise been kept in its entirety; even the really old 'YO3J' alarm still remains producing its unique sound - this alarm dates back to the early 1980s! The astounding Reigate Signal Box is the location from which this level crossing is controlled, and the station here only has a two-hourly service. The Gatwick Airport leg was actually cancelled at the time of filming leaving a whole two hours until the next; Pretty unacceptable for Surrey's airport train, but this is Surrey's least-used station owing to its remote location and complete lack of any nearby parking, so a positive twist says there are worse stations for it to happen to, and thankfully others nearby see a half-hourly service to/from the Airport.
