The Catholic Diocese of El Paso has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy amid mounting financial pressure from clergy sex-abuse lawsuits and ongoing operating losses. According to court documents, the diocese faces multiple claims — many tied to abuse allegations from the 1950s through the 1980s — and warns that defense costs and settlements could far exceed available resources.
