Lawmakers hope to make Ashley's Law 'top priority' after Price woman raped by stepdad

Описание: Lawmakers said they want to make "Ashley's Law" a top priority after a woman with severe disabilities was raped repeatedly by her stepdad.

Paula Vigil, Ashley Vigil's mother, has been advocating for better protections for vulnerable adults in the state. Despite reaching out to lawmakers, attorneys, and various media outlets, she felt her daughter's story was not receiving the attention it deserved.

"When I received the email, we were in the start of the legislative session. I felt really bad for the family in this situation and I wish I could have done more. That's why we want to make sure we address it in this upcoming session," State Rep. Angela Romero said. "I think it's important for people to know that we care and when they bring issues to us, we take them seriously. I want to make sure it doesn't happen to someone again, or if it does, we have those laws in place."
