When We See Us: A Century of Black Figuration in Painting is one of the most acclaimed exhibitions in contemporary art, bringing together over 148 paintings by Black artists from Africa and its diaspora, spanning a century of joy and self-representation.
I experienced it at Liljevalchs in Stockholm, and I went back two times. It is powerful and unforgettable.
I normally blur people’s faces in my videos, but unfortunately, this also blurs the artworks, so I’ve decided not to use it this time.
