South Africa has 243 correctional centers (or 'prisons'), with a total inmate population of approximately 161 000. Of these, there are 43 646 remand detainees. Ex-offenders are using skills learned whilst in prison to empower themselves and the community. Thohoyandou Correctional Centre is one of the centers, situated in the Vhembe District in Limpopo province, South Africa. It is a maximum-security prison. Gladys Mukondeleli (Ex-offender), was arrested for fraud and forgery and sentenced to seven years imprisonment. A resident at Mianzwi Village, busy with farming to support the family.
