Ritchie Valens (May 13, 1941 as Richard Steven Valenzuela in Pacoima, Los Angeles; † February 3, 1959 in Mason City, Iowa) was an American rock 'n' roll musician with Mexican roots. He died in a plane crash with fellow musicians Buddy Holly and The Big Bopper. The day of the plane crash was sung by Don McLean in American Pie as The Day the Music Died.
