In this video, I demonstrate a complete end-to-end RS-485 Modbus communication system using Arduino UNO, 74HC4067 analog multiplexer, and LabVIEW for real-time data visualization.
The objective of this project is to show how multiple analog sensor signals can be acquired, transmitted over RS-485 using Modbus protocol, and monitored on both MODScan software and LabVIEW—a setup widely used in industrial automation, BMS, DAQ, and control systems.
🔹 System Overview
Arduino UNO is used as the main controller
74HC4067 (16-Channel Analog Multiplexer) is used to expand analog inputs
12 potentiometers are used to emulate multiple analog sensors
Remaining Arduino analog inputs are also utilized directly
MAX485 IC is used for TTL ↔ RS-485 level conversion
RS-485 communication is established using the Modbus RTU protocol
Data is monitored on:
MODScan Software (PC-based Modbus testing tool)
LabVIEW Modbus VI (custom front panel & block diagram)
🔹 What is Explained in Detail
✔ Analog signal acquisition using Arduino + 74HC4067
✔ Channel selection logic for the multiplexer
✔ Modbus register mapping for multiple ADC channels
✔ RS-485 hardware wiring using MAX485
✔ Testing Modbus data using MODScan Software
✔ Creating a LabVIEW Modbus RS-485 VI
✔ Reading real-time multi-channel analog data in LabVIEW
