Whiteface Mountain - The Follies to Lower Northway to Valley to Fox (Top to Bottom Run)

Описание: The Follies to Lower Northway to Valley to Fox is a ski run of varying difficulties located at Whiteface Mountain. The trails run from the top of the Summit Quad chairlift, down to the main base area. The run starts on The Follies, an intermediate trail, which continues straight past all the other trails dropping off to the left when starting off to the left when unloading the Summit Quad as all of the trails, besides The Slides, do. The trail is narrow and features multiple sharp 90-degree turns but is relatively mellow. The trail also provides sweeping views of the Adirondacks and of Lake Placid, the only trail at the resort to give such a view, and of Mount Marcy in the distance, the highest peak in New York. The trail eventually merges with Paron's Run and becomes wider as it runs until coming to an intersection with Excelsior. At this intersection, I stayed to the right to hop onto Lower Northway, which is also an intermediate trail. Lower Northway is a pretty straight trail, with little curves, and features a consistent, but not too steep, pitch. The trail runs like this until it meets back up with Excelsior, at which point I stayed to the right to drop into the valley area. The trail runs flat for a bit before making a sharp turn to the left and merging onto Upper Valley. Upper Valley, also rated as intermediate, runs underneath the Face Lift chairlift. The trail starts out pretty flat until dropping into a decent but short drop. After passing by the Legacy Lodge, the run turns into Lower Valley, which is still an intermediate trail. At this point, Valley deviates slightly to the skier's right of the chairlift, running relatively flat before turning back towards the chairlift to the left into another moderately steep but short drop. The run then flattens and widens significantly, turning into the beginner run, Fox. The trail is pretty flat, running next to the Face Lift, before deviating again slightly to the right into a small beginner drop before reaching the main base area. As Whiteface has the most vertical of any ski area east of the Rockies, this run, as a result, is also the run with the most vertical in the East (tied with the other top to bottom runs at Whiteface).

Whiteface Mountain is a ski area located in Wilmington, New York. The ski area is located in the Adirondacks, in Northern Essex County, about a 15-minute drive northeast of Lake Placid. The resort is primarily known for its advanced terrain, of which plenty can be found off of Little Whiteface with some also running off the summit and Lookout chairs, but also features an extensive beginner area at the Bear Den base area and has plenty of intermediate trails mixed in between. The mountain is also home to The Slides, a group of rarely opened extreme lines, which is known as some of the most challenging terrain in the East and is located just a quick hike up from the top of the Summit Quad chairlift. The mountain is also known for holding many prestigious ski races, most notably during the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics, held in Lake Placid, for which Whiteface hosted all of the alpine skiing events. In the present, the ski area still holds many races and will hold the alpine skiing events for the upcoming 2023 Winter World University Games, which is being held in Lake Placid. The ski area is owned by the Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA), a branch of the New York State government. The ski area is a member of the Ski 3 season pass, which also includes access to the other two ORDA run resorts: Gore and Belleayre.
