What Is HUD Housing?
"HUD housing" is a broad term referring to various housing assistance programs funded or overseen by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Its primary goal is to provide safe, decent, and affordable housing for low-income individuals and families. This isn't a specific building type, but rather a federal support system. The two main forms are Public Housing, where local Public Housing Agencies (PHAs) own and manage properties, and the Housing Choice Voucher program (commonly known as Section 8). Under Section 8, eligible tenants receive a voucher to subsidize a portion of their rent in privately owned housing. Eligibility for these HUD-supported programs is based on household income limits relative to the area's median income, with PHAs managing local administration.
