In this video, I discuss a vaulted palate, narrow arch width, proper tongue posture and how it improves factors like airway function and breathing efficiency.
This is my Week 6 update in the Vivos airway and dental expansion process.
In this video, I talk about how a vaulted palate (high-arched palate) can influence airway efficiency. When the upper dental arch is narrow and compressed, it can push the palate upward into the nasal cavity, potentially reducing nasal space and impacting breathing.
My transverse arch measurement across the first molars is 28.9 mm, which contributes to limited tongue space and airway considerations.
I discuss:
• How a vaulted palate may affect nasal cavity size
• The relationship between transverse dental arch width and airway function
• How Vivos expansion, combined with myofunctional therapy, may help flatten the vault over time
I also share my experience with tongue posture and airway restriction.
Proper tongue position includes:
• Tongue resting gently on the upper palate
• Tongue behind the front teeth
• Sides of the tongue against the upper arch
• Lips closed
• Teeth slightly apart
• Nasal breathing
Benefits of proper tongue posture may include:
• More stable jaw positioning
• Reduced TMJ tension
• Improved cervical posture
• Head balanced over the spine instead of forward compensation
• Engagement of submental muscles (under the jaw)
• Support of lateral upper arch development
• Improved breathing patterns and oxygen efficiency
• Less snoring
• Improved swallowing mechanics and digestion
This video is part of my ongoing personal observation and documenting of airway-focused dental expansion and related postural and breathing changes.
